Meal Planning Monday - October Issues

Monday 7 October 2013
I had 9 cookery magazines to work from during September but they are now back on the shelf and the October issues have been dusted off. 13 copies ranging from 2006 Good Food to Delicious 2012. It would seem that the seasonal produce I should be including in my meal plan this month includes Pumpkin, Apples, Leeks, Mushrooms and Game.
I fancied the idea of tracking down some of the more weird and wonderful squash/pumpkins to incorporate but didn't recall ever seeing any in the supermarket  I took to Twitter to ask where to look and the universal answer was Lidl. I was somewhat skeptical but my shopping trip didn't disappoint and I returned with the four cutest from the shelf.
Last weeks plan was duly followed with a couple of additions and amendments.
Crab & Leek Pasties (one huge one rather than individuals)
Enchiladas & Salsa (incorporating the last of the tomatillos)
Linguine & Squid with Lemon & Tarragon
Wild winds blew down the only branch on our apple tree with fruit on it so dinner that night was Curried Butternut Squash and Apple Soup followed by Bramble and Apple Scrumble. Not a typo but topped with a cross between Scone and Crumble. Scrumble.
Saturday night called for movies, pizza, popcorn and beer. Absolutely loved the Fyne & Wild "Cool as a Cucumber" with Cucumber, Mint and Wild Saison. Alas it was a summer special so no more available.
Sunday lunch saw me paying homage to the Great British Bake Off where the signature challenge this week was suet pastry. Jam Roly Poly was the order of the day. With lashings of custard of course.
So what's on the menu for this #mealplanningmonday

Chicken & Mushroom Pie (leftover sunday roast chook)
Pumpkin & Rosemary Pasta
Slow Cooked Rabbit Stew with Prunes & Brandy (assuming I can track down some bunny to boil)
Sausage & Gnocchi Bake
Apple Pie

I've also got the Autumn Gourmet Gals Food Swap this Wednesday night and then the schools break up for the Tattie Holidays on Friday. Where has the year gone?

  1. Looking good. I like the way you organise your magazines. I've had to get rid if some of mine due to lack of space

  4. I love food magazines! I have hundreds! I've been searching the web to find the best way to organise the recipes I want to keep. They are all time consuming ways though! So my pile will be getting bigger! Pumpkin & rosemary pasta sounds delicious and I'm going to check out Lidl now!

    1. I guess I must be in the hundreds too. Also have lots of bits torn out from supermarket/general mags. Not sure what the best answer is to organising. Lidl definitely the place to go for funky squash.

    1. I got a huge stash from a friend that her husband made her throw out. They were sat in my hall and my hubbie commented that it was good that I'd had a clear out. Needless to say I didn't enlighten him...
