Meal Planning Monday 3rd February 2014

Sunday 2 February 2014
It's February. How on earth did that happen? Last week was a busy one and this will be no different. Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be any more Haggis we had another Burns Supper to attend. Great start to the night with a Red, Red Rose Corsage and a glass of Prosecco.

There was a fantastic choice on the menu for the event which was held at The Stage Door. Really difficult to choose from a fantastic selection of Scottish fare. There were Haggis Bon Bons as canapes on arrival so despite not opting for the great chieftain during the meal I still got my fill.

Pan Fried Scallops with baby Stornoway black pudding, pommes puree and grain mustard cream.
Chargrilled medallions of Highland Venison with pommes Anna, parsnip puree, game jus and redcurrants.
Selection of Scottish Cheese, biscuits, fruit chutney and quince jelly.
Much excitement when boy won a #soyselfie competition on Twitter run by Kikkoman. His prize was a signed copy of Lisa Faulkner's "The Way I Cook..." Lots of recipes have been bookmarked and his favourite has gone on the meal plan for this week.
The Choc Chip Chilli with Cornbread Crust on last weeks meal plan was a bit of a mixed bag. The chilli itself was far too sweet and chocolatey - even for sweet toothed girl. However the cornbread crust was lovely so will definitely do it again on a more traditional chilli. Boy took control of making the Zesty Chicken Pasta and my Mum served up a lovely dish of Gnocchi with cream, mushrooms and chicken. Not bad for her first time cooking with it.
The weekend saw me heading north to spend the night with my folks in The Black Isle before a trip to Kingussie for the Food on Film Festival. We first visited the Pitstop Cafe back in October on my #HighlandFoodieRoadTrip. This time round it provided a perfect stopping off point for Brunch enroute. £5 for the full breakfast and 60p for an accompanying cup of tea. Can't be beaten.
Had a great time at Kingussie Food On Film Festival with my partner in crime Michelle from Snow Marketing. Bloggage to follow later in the week. Lots of food, fun, film, gin and dancing girls.
Without further ado here's my #MealPlaningMonday. A couple of oriental inspired dishes as we missed out on celebrating Chinese New Year last week.

Mushroom & Chestnut Filo Pie (Delicious Magazine Feb 2014)
Spaghetti alle Vongole (Lisa Faulkner - The Way I Cook...)
Honey Kikkoman Pork Chops
Honey & Mustard Toad in the Holes (Delicious Magazine Feb 2014)

In addition to the above I'm at the Grampian Food Forum Dining Club, a night out with friends to celebrate Foodie Loon's birthday where we'll be eating at Aberdeen's newest Waggamama in the Academy and I need to rustle up something romantic for the Pinnies & Petticoats Valentine meet.
If you missed the post about my fishy food education work with the STAR Flat - Community Cookery Classes in Aberdeen do take a look. Its something I'm really passionate about. This week we'll be making seafood pizzas. Enjoy your week whatever is on the menu.
